What is 128-bit encryption?
128-bit encryption is a higher level of protection a web browser can offer for your Internet communications, including personal information, credit card use and financial transactions. Encryption is used for all online transaction sessions or whenever personal information is requested. Encryption encodes the information that flows between your computer and our computer systems making it difficult for unauthorized individuals to intercept, read or alter your online communications and transactions. |
In order to comply with the newest security requirements in technology, all browsers using the Campus Information System must be able to use 128 bit encryption technology. |
What browsers can I use?
The following browsers are supported by the current CIS system:
|
What do I do if I do not have these browsers and versions?
If you are using a lower version of a browser that does not support 128 bit encryption then you will need to update your browser. Below are links to the various sites for browser updates.
Will I get an error if my browser isn't 128-bit encryption enabled? Yes. The error displayed when trying to go to CIS will say: "The page cannot be displayed..." OR "An error occurred in the secure channel support." If you see either of these messages or variations, then you will need to check your browser's cipher strength and probably update your browser. Can I upgrade the encryption level of my browser without upgrading the version? That depends on the browser and version you are currently using.
